Laramie Water Supply Improvements
WWC’s Laramie office has been involved with projects
for Pioneer Canal and Lake Hattie in Albany County since 1980.
The most
recent is the design of an enclosed pipeline from Sodergreen
Lake and the Laramie River to bypass Pioneer Canal. Historically,
Laramie’s water
supply has been transported to the water treatment
plant through Pioneer Canal, an open canal system. This canal
loses around 50% of its water
supply due to infiltration and evaporation. This increases
to almost 100% during hot weather. By building an enclosed pipeline,
the water
supply for the town of Laramie will be effectively
doubled. The finished pipeline will be a 36-inch line, running
3.3 miles, and paralleling
Pioneer Canal. Total cost for this project is estimated
to be approximately $15.37 million. WWDC funding has been applied
for to fund a portion
of the project. To read the full article from the Laramie Boomerang
