Lake DeSmet Dam & Shoreline Rehabilitation Project
Johnson County, WY
During an extreme storm event in 2007, waves over 8 feet were created by sustained gale force winds causing extensive erosion and shoreline damage to Lake DeSmet, a popular recreation site in northeast Wyoming. WWC was retained to design and provide construction engineering services for the rehabilitation of 1,260 feet of the south dam face as well as 700 feet of damaged shoreline. Rehabilitation of the dam was accomplished by regrading and recompacting the dam face, installing two layers of filter stone, and placing more than 21,000 tons of limestone and scoria riprap. Shoreline rehabilitation involved backsloping, regrading, and revegetation of a section of eroded shoreline to make it safe once again for public access and recreation. Final project completion and acceptance was achieved in October 2009.
